Musings 162--Covering their asses...

With terrorist trying to blow up commercial airlines out of Great Britain today, one must wonder if we are better off than we were before Bush jr. and company decided to turn the mid-east upside down.

Religious terrorist will always do their thing. We must not forget Northern Ireland during a large part of the 20th century. Protestant Christians killed Catholic Christians in the name of God and vice versa. The Muslims have done nothing different. Thus, the conclusion is that people have killed in the name of God for thousands of years. This is not new.

What is new is that the United States used to be the moral guy on the block. We are not any more. Today, under the cover of the news out of England, the Bush Administration is trying to get legislation passed that will cover their asses for crimes and misdemeanors past and present. (See Link)

Now if our little fart president from Texas is so sure that everything he does is right; then, why do his people want a retroactive law to protect themselves. It kind of makes you say...hmmmmm.

Here are the last three paragraphs in an article in the L. A. Times:

"I think what this bill can do is in effect immunize past crimes. That's why it's so dangerous," said a third attorney, Eugene Fidell, president of the National Institute of Military Justice.

Fidell said the initiative was "not just protection of political appointees but also CIA personnel who led interrogations."

Interrogation practices "follow from policies that were formed at the highest levels of the administration," said a fourth attorney, Scott Horton. "The administration is trying to insulate policymakers under the War Crimes Act."

Bush and his followers are something else. They want to cover their bases, no mater what comes. Responsibility is not a term that they can define.

Thus, while the Brits are taking down real-live terrorist, the Bushies are covering their asses by using the law making power of the constitution to do it.

I could just cry.
